John & Ally had decided it was about time they did something with their tired garden beside their Berkshire barn conversion. It was quite problematic as it was a difficult triangular shape, quite shady due to a couple of large trees & they were concerned their dog needed the lawn. I persuaded them to have a courtyard instead, both for ease of maintenance & really to make more of the space they had. I also wanted their view to be of a stylish space rather than what we were currently looking at…the lawn was mossy & muddy & there was no focal point.
I have dogs & they don’t need a lawn to pee on – Millboard decks are pee proof & non slip & can simply be hosed down whereas dog pee can destroy a lawn leaving brown patches. In a small space like this it’s just not acceptable.
The Millboard deck created a safe, stylish & sociable area for this lovely couple & the boardwalk gave it a focal point. John loves to BBQ son this was built in & the lighting makes it into a perfect space to dine out. Read my blog about it behind the scenes…
